Wine appeared to be amazing medicine for ancient Egyptians, who used to doctor their alcoholic beverages with medicinal herbs and other ingredients, according to a new study.
The oldest of the recently analyzed herbal wines dates to 3150 B.C. Since early medical papyri document the purported health benefits of some of the wine’s ingredients, the discovery provides the first direct chemical evidence for wine with organic medical additives.

“The ancient Egyptians settled on adding herbs and other ingredients that had marked medicinal effects, probably just based on observational trial and error,” Patrick McGovern, lead author of the paper, told Discovery News.
“Of course superstitions crept in too, such as when they would throw in a root because it resembled a certain body part, but we think there was some medical truth behind a lot of their wine additives,” continued McGovern, an archaeochemist at the University of Pennsylvania Museum.

McDonald’s is no longer to blame as the most severe cause for heart disease. Researchers are revealing very interesting facts of 3,500-year-old health state: ancient egyptians were suffering from heart disease.

Dr. Randall Thompson, a cardiologist at the Mid America Heart Institute in Kansas City is sharing his view that fast food , smoking and lack of exercise in our modern life is not the only factor and reason of arteries clog.

With a group of other researchers he used CT scans, a type of X-ray machine, on 22 mummies from Egyptian National Museum of Antiquities in Cairo. The subjects were from 1981 B.C. to 334 A.D. Half of them were over 45 when died and average lifespan of that time period was under 50.

16 mummies were analyzed by heart and blood vessel tissues. Definite or probable hardening of the arteries was seen in nine of them.

“We were struck by the similar appearance of vascular calcification in the mummies and our present-day patients,” said another researcher, Dr. Michael Miyamoto of the University of California at San Diego. “Perhaps the development of atherosclerosis is a part of being human.

It was hard to determine if the real cause of their death was heart attack and what was their exact weight as the mummification dearly dehydrates the body. It was identified though that all of them were of high social status, many served in the court of the Pharaoh or as priests or priestesses.

“Rich people ate meat, and they did salt meat, so maybe they had hypertension (high blood pressure), but that’s speculation,” Thompson said. With modern diets, “we all sort of live in the Pharaoh’s court,” said another of the researchers, Dr. Samuel Wann of the Wisconsin Heart Hospital in Milwaukee.

The oldest mummy with heart disease was Lady Rai, a nursemaid to Queen Ahmose Nefertari who died around 1530 B.C. – 200 years before King Tutankhamun.

How many pyramids are there?

There are numerous structures which have/had the shape of a pyramid. The genuine pyramids, however, are those which consist of solid core masonry, and there are ten of them.

These ten pyramids are located within 50 miles (80km) of each other. They were all built during the 3rd and 4th Dynasties. In a little more than a century, twenty-five million tons of limestone was used to build these pyramids. Later, ungenuine pyramids were built during the 5th and later Dynasties.

Have been reading this fab book about Magic Words & amongst many things, it says that the word “amen” – most usually uttered at the end of a Christian Prayer such as grace is actually referring to the Ancient Egyptian creator God; Amon or Amun .  I completely love it when ancient Gods, Goddesses and archetypes show themselves to be so woven with our officially non-magical life now.  Does anyone know anything about this?  He’d have to be a Trickster Deity as well, to have so successfully ensured the ongoing use of the name in a worshipful context. No?

Worldwide museums preserve artefacts of Egyptian nature and do not recognize the modern Egyptian Republic’s claim to them.

For many years, the Egyptian director of Antiquities, Mr. Zahi Hawass has called upon worldwide museums for the return of his country’s archaeological heritage. In this case, Egypt petitioned Paris’ Louvre museum to return some frescoes that were stolen from the Valley of the Kings in the 1980s. Indeed, Hawass claims that the Louvre knew of the artefacts’ stolen origin and nevertheless purchased the frescoes in 2000 and have displayed them ever since. As a result, Egypt declared an end of relations between itself and the Louvre, ending a 200 year “partnership”. Although similar measures have been taken by Greek and Egyptian authorities in the past, this time it actually worked. France has announced the imminent return of the frescoes to Cairo. As a result, we may see increased political pressure to return mountains of stolen archaeology in the coming years.
